About Us

Chester Weber and Jim and Jill Westbrook

Our unique partnership began in 2004 when Jim Westbrook, trainer of the World Champion Ames Percheron Farm Draft Horse Hitch, contacted Chester Weber, a multiple US National Four-In-Hand Combined Driving Champion, with a recommendation of where to purchase a training carriage much like was used in the combined driving world, but built for the heavy draft size horse. Jim wanted a training vehicle to drive the Ames Percherons on that had easy driver access and a better ride than the “standard” draft horse hitch practice wagons.  Jim Westbrook and Chester Weber had been longtime friends, as Jim was Live Oak Plantation’s Clydesdale manager from 1989-1998 and actually taught Chester many of his basic driving skills with the Clydesdale hitch.

With Chester’s connections, Jim imported the first specially built Leon II training carriage from Fahrsport Hansmeier of Germany in February of 2005. That Leon II was built to a width and weight more suited to the heavy draft show horses exhibited throughout the United States and Canada.

From that first shipment in 2005, Jim and Jill Westbrook, along with Chester Weber and our carriage distributor Jim Hilgendorf, have sold over 250 Leon II carriages in various sizes along with 28 other marathon, training, and custom carriages built and imported from the European Union.
